Ankara is a multi-layered city shaped by numerous civilisations over time. The city's identity is built upon these accumulated spatial and social values. However, many of these values, despite still existing, are not widely recognized by the residents. This lack of awareness threatens the continuity of Ankara's urban identity.

The Memory Ankara Project aims to address this by raising awareness. By identifying, documenting, and sharing the key spatial and social aspects that define Ankara's urban identity, the project seeks to make them more known and ensure their preservation.

The project had three axes, which are superimposed through a website. The first axis is spatial, informing and documenting structures and open spaces that contribute to Ankara’s multicultural identity. The second axis is social, informing and documenting individuals and families who left significant marks on Ankara's business, science, arts, and cultural life; institutions that contributed to its social development; brands that drove its economic growth; and businesses that shaped its social and cultural life. The third axis is stories, where oral history interviews were conducted to gather residents' experiences and memories related to daily life and extraordinary events in Ankara.
